Aldi has enforced a strict limit on how many bottles of a popular festive drink shoppers are allowed to buy, as the supermarket prepares for its busiest time of year. The budget store has reduced the prices of several items, lowering the price of more than 65 wines in its Specially Selected wine range. For bargain-hunters, plenty of yellow stickers are expected on Christmas Eve.
One discounted wine is getting tightly controlled due to a surge in demand. Champagne for breakfast is a widespread Christmas tradition, often mixed with orange juice into a Buck’s Fizz and enjoyed with a slice of panettone. Paired with opening presents, it marks the beginning of a day of festive day-drinking.
Aldi reduced the price of its Sales of Nicolas de Montbart Champagne by 29%, from £13.99 to £9.99, only to find it become wildly popular.
Sales surged by 76%, prompting Aldi to introduce a cap of four bottles per customer. So if your family needs more than four bottles, make sure to do your shopping trip in a group.
It’s not unusual for Aldi to set purchase limits on popular items, especially Specialbuys or highly anticipated products like toys or festive foods, typically enforcing limits of two or four per person to manage high demand and prevent reselling.
The news comes as the supermarket enforced a two-item limit of its much-loved character Kevin the Carrot. Availability of some products in this range will be limited and once sold out, items will not be restocked.
This Christmas Eve, Aldi is expected to scatter its discounted foods across the store, so keep your eyes peeled. Aldi uses red stickers to highlight its discounted products. Aldi tends to mark down items by up to 75% on their final day of sale. Stores will close at 5pm.
Aldi is also closed on New Year’s Day, meaning New Year’s Eve will be prime time to secure a bargain. Stores will close at 6pm.
