Amex launches new bonus points offers worth up to £360 for ‘limited time’

American Express has launched a new series of boosted sign-up and referral offers across its Gold and Platinum Cards, with up to £360 worth of points available.

Dave Edwards, vice president at American Express (Amex), said: “We are excited to announce the launch of our limited-time offers for Gold and Platinum Cards, making our products even more rewarding for our Cardmembers. These offers will give new and existing Cardmembers the chance to earn increased Membership Rewards points that can be used in a variety of ways, including on travel, dining and shopping.”

Double points for Gold Cardmembers

New Gold Card applicants approved by October 14, 2025, can earn 40,000 Membership Rewards® points by spending £5,000 in the first six months – double the usual maximum.

These points can be redeemed as £180 to offset purchases. The Gold Card is free for the first year, but after that charges £195 a year. It offers perks like Priority Pass lounge access, Deliveroo credits, and triple points on Amex Travel.

Platinum bonus worth up to £360

The Platinum Card is also offering a boosted bonus, this time worth up to £360. New applicants who are approved and spend £10,000 in the first six months will receive 80,000 Membership Rewards points – higher than the card’s standard maximum of 50,000.

80,000 Membership Rewards points can be redeemed as £360 to offset purchases made on the Card.

Beyond the welcome offer, Platinum Card membership includes a £400 Global Dining Credit, luxury hotel benefits such as guaranteed late checkout and upgrades, worldwide travel insurance, and unlimited access to more than 1,550 airport lounges around the world.

The annual fee for the Platinum Card is £650, but American Express values the package of benefits at more than £3,000 a year.

Many experts note this card may be better suited to frequent travellers who can make use of the lounge access.

Referral scheme

Existing members also stand to gain under the expanded “Invite a Friend” scheme, which runs alongside the sign-up bonuses until October 14.

Gold Cardmembers who introduce a friend now receive 14,000 points instead of the usual 9,000, while the referred applicant gets 45,000 points if they are approved and spend £5,000 in six months.

Platinum Cardmembers receive 18,000 points for a successful referral, while their friend can unlock 100,000 points, almost twice the number normally available. That bonus is worth around £450 if used to offset purchases.

It’s important for people to check the terms and conditions of each card to make sure the perks align with their spending before signing up.
