Arbitrum Orbit chains now support bridged USD Coin (USDC) as a custom gas token.
According to a press release, this integration enables users to pay transaction fees with the stablecoin to enhance transaction convenience and stability within the Arbitrum ecosystem.
Bridged USDC for Stability and Accessibility
The release stated that builders could quickly set up Orbit chains using bridged USDC as a standard configuration, benefiting from the price stability and wide acceptance of the coin.
This change would remove the necessity of holding various tokens just to cover gas fees, simplifying the transaction process and enhancing user experience.
With more than $1.6 billion in native USDC on Arbitrum, using bridged USDC as a gas token makes it easier for new projects and users to engage with Arbitrum Orbit chains.

Developers can start building on Arbitrum Orbit chains using platforms like AltLayer, Caldera, Conduit, and Gelato. Support from Ankr, a decentralized cloud computing platform, and Alchemy, a blockchain development platform, will be available soon.
Additionally, developers leveraging the stablecoin as a gas token on Orbit chains can apply for the USDC Grant Program at Circle, which offers financial support for projects that enhance the Arbitrum ecosystem.
