Asda shoppers vow to ‘shop elsewhere’ over reward scheme change

Asda is shaking up its discount offerings, and the new move has not gone down well with some shoppers.

The retailer has announced it will be scrapping Star Products from its Asda Rewards scheme, with the change taking effect from Thursday.

Customers who purchase Star Products have been able to earn 10% of the price back into their Cashpot, which can then be converted into vouchers for discounts on future Asda shops.

This move comes ahead of a major overhaul expected to bring about the largest Rollback price reductions in years.

An Asda spokesperson teased that there’s “much more to come, through Asda Rewards and across our stores”. However, the decision has sparked outrage among some customers, with one declaring, “It looks like me shopping somewhere else then.”

Another customer expressed a preference for Tesco, saying, “Oh well, back to Tesco then where (we) will get Clubcard points.”

Despite mixed reactions, another shopper mentioned being impressed with recent Rollbacks, while someone else commented on the convenience of earning cashback for items they would buy anyway, reports Birmingham Live.

This news coincides with Asda discontinuing its Aldi and Lidl price match scheme just one year after its introduction.

Asda has axed its price-matching scheme, which ensured certain products were matched with or priced lower than those at Aldi and Lidl.

This move is intended to finance a substantial investment aimed at reducing prices on a broader array of goods, as reported by Grocer Magazine.

Customers looking for the price-match scheme on Asda’s website are now met with a redirection to a notice stating, “Our Aldi Lidl Price Match has now finished, but don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of special offers across our entire groceries range.

“Just visit our offers page to find out more.”
