A Barclays customer was left struggling to access their funds after two of their bank cards were reportedly targeted by fraudsters.
The worried customer contacted the bank over X seeking urgent help. They said: “I had to cancel my card on Tuesday due to fraudulent activity.
“I’ve been sent a replacement but currently waiting on delivery. In the Barclays app, there’s a digital version of the new card but it’s being declined for payments and I’ve received a text of more fraudulent activity on this new card, apparently.
“I can’t reply “N” to the text because the one payment isn’t mine but the others are. What do I do as I need to pay for travel to and from work today? I can’t withdraw cash as I have no card and I can’t use the digital form.”
The bank invited them to send a direct message so they could help with their query.
The Barclays website advises customers that if they see an unexpected payment has gone out of their account, it may not be fraudulent.
This is because the payment may be to a company trading under a different name, a payment from someone else who shares the account, or a recurring payment, such as for an online service where a free trial has now ended.
The information states: “If you still think the payment is fraudulent, or you’ve been scammed and have lost money, please report it to us as soon as possible so we can look into it for you.
“There are different numbers to call depending on whether you’re reporting fraud or a scam, and where you are.”
