Barclays warning for all customers shopping with Amazon

Barclays has issued a warning for Amazon shoppers after an error message was reported.

A customer contacted the bank over X to ask: “I’ve been trying to make a payment to my Amazon account via the Barclays app, each time for the past three to four weeks, it’s been giving me error 00002.

“I can’t take a screenshot due to the apps security, I left a review and got asked to contact yourselves.”

Barclays initially asked the customer to clarify what kind of payment this was, and if it was a card payment or an open banking payment.

The bank also explained what the error code refers to: “The error code is normally showing when a general issue is happening.”

Barclays also provided a tip that may resolve the issue, advising: “You can try to make sure you switch between Wi-Fi and your data and also to make sure you are running the latest version.”

Information on the Barclays website states that if you get the 00002 error message, it will be: “The request cannot be processed at this time. Please try again later.”

The bank also provides this advice if you get this error message: “Please close the app and try again. If that doesn’t work, you might need to update your app to the latest version from your device’s app store.

“If you’re still having problems after installing the latest version of the app, you might need to update your device’s operating system. Check your settings for updates.”

The bank also states that it will keep its terms and conditions updated with information about which operating systems the app works on, if you need to check.

The Amazon website states that in the event a payment is declined, the customer’s bank cannot inform Amazon Pay of the reason why for security reasons.

Customers are advised to contact their bank if there is an issue with a payment going through, even in these circumstances:

  • You have successfully used the payment method on a previous order.
  • Part of your order has already been charged and shipped successfully.
  • You have funds available in your bank account or on your credit card to cover the order cost.

However, Amazon Pay customer service can help a shopper to verify they have entered their payment information correctly and to change the payment method on an open order.
