British Gas customers are being urged to do their washing, cleaning and cooking during a two-hour window to save money on their energy bills.
The energy supplier is holding a ‘Green Flex’ event on Thursday, August 28, which will allow customers to enjoy half price electricity between 2pm and 4pm. The event is being run thanks to windy and sunny conditions which have resulted in more renewable energy being available. During the two-hour window, eligible customers can opt in to take part and will benefit from 50% off their bills so it’s a great opportunity to complete energy guzzling activities like washing, cleaning, cooking or mowing the lawn.
While there’s no obligation to change your routine, using household appliances that use a lot of energy during these hours will allow you to save more on your bills.
British Gas uses its own forecasting to set the events to test the potential savings and impact on the grid with this scheme. The discount is available to new and existing PeakSave customers, and all savings will appear as a credit on customers’ energy bills.
Green Flex events require opting in and British Gas will email customers to notify them of today’s opportunity to take part and save money. By using electricity during off-peak hours you can earn credit towards your electricity bill or meter and make big savings throughout the year.
The event comes in addition to the supplier’s usual half price electricity on Sunday between 11am and 4pm as part of its PeakSave scheme. This scheme is open to all customers – no matter what tariff you’re on – and by joining you’ll get 50% cheaper electricity every Sunday between these five hours.
So if you miss the Green Flex event this afternoon, you’ll have another chance to save money on Sunday, August 31, during a five-hour window from 11am to 4pm. The Sunday events don’t require opting in as costumes will automatically be included every week after signing up to PeakSave.
British Gas tends to run two to three PeakSave Green Flex events per month, each lasting two hours, so customers can expect more opportunities to save money in September.
PeakSave was launched to reward customers for better energy usage, supporting a greener energy supply, and so far, British Gas has paid more than £25 million to over 1 million customers taking part in the scheme.
PeakSave customers can benefit from half price electricity and take part in Green Flex events on any British Gas tariff and today British Gas has launched a 1 year fixed at £1,580 for the average dual fuel bill – £175 below the price cap.
British Gas customers can book their free smart meter installation with half hourly data and take part by signing up online.
