easyJet passport warning for anyone booking a flight

EasyJet has issued a warning about a detail you need to get correct when booking a flight.

The issue came to light when a customer contacted the group over X with a query about the name they had put on their booking.

They asked: “Say theoretically the name on my passport is Mohammad Adam Khan and I’ve booked a ticket with my chosen name which is Adam Khan. Would that be an issue?”

EasyJet responded to say that would cause a problem, warning: “The booking needs to match the name on your passport.”

The airline also said that they would be able to change this detail using the ‘Manage Booking’ feature.

The easyJet website warns customers about this issue: “Please ensure the passenger’s full name matches the ID they will be using to travel, including middle names.”

There can be fees involved if you want to change details of your flight. For example, to change the name on a booking, it costs £55 to do so online and £60 to arrange this with the customer services team.

But if the change relates to a spelling mistake or a title change, this is free to do either way. The customer later replied to say they had managed to change the name via the online chat and that fortunately there was no charge.

They said they had made the error while doing a booking online for a large group.

Through the Manage Bookings feature, you can change names and spelling mistakes, as well as flight times, dates, and destinations.

You can also amend or add seats to your booking and add hold luggage, sports equipment or increase your weight allowance.

If you want to cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking, there is a £49 fee online and a £55 fee with the customer service team.

Regarding name changes, the easyJet website states: “Title changes and Spelling mistakes, limited to three characters per name, can be done online either via our website or mobile app free of charge.

“To change a passenger’s name you will need to sign in using the email address and password used to make the original booking.

“You’ll then be able to view your booking under “View Bookings” and choose which booking you would like to make changes to. You can also do this via our mobile app.”
