Energy bills will be £22 lower as expert busts myth on heating homes

Heating your home over winter can be stressful when it comes to cost.

You might have tried everything from heated blankets to hot water bottles but sometimes, the heating has to be used.

Covering the cost of energy bills at home has become significantly more challenging, with costs approximately £600 higher annually compared to 2022, gas prices up by 50% and roughly one million UK households falling behind on payments, reports The Mirror.

As colder weather approaches, taking steps to minimise heating expenses has never been more crucial.

According to Sky News, Cornwall Insight, the energy market consultancy, widely expects the industry regulator Ofgem to reveal a 1% decline in the cap covering January to March on Friday.

This would mean that the average annual bill for dual fuel households would be down by £22 on the current £1,755.

Ryan Willdig, heating expert from Heatforce, told Sky News that he was concerned Brits do not have the correct information to cut costs.

He says: “There has been a lot of misinformation over the years… In reality, it’s far more efficient and cost-effective to only use the heating when required.

“Keeping the heating on all day means the boiler is working to maintain a temperature even when you don’t need it (when you’re not home).

“This uses quite a bit more gas over 24 hours than only heating when it’s required.

“Modern condensing boilers are efficient at quickly heating a space – combined with a programmer or smart thermostat, they heat only when it’s needed, reducing the overall cost.”

If you’re looking for the cheapest way to heat your home this winter, it’s crucial to do your research properly.

By doing this, you can ensure you won’t waste any money and you won’t have to feel worried about the cost of your bills.
