Homebase has announced nine brand new openings across the UK and Ireland in April.
The openings are part of the DIY and garden retailer’s rollout of “exclusive” garden centres inside The Range superstores, with more than 100 sites already open. It comes after Homebase fell into administration in November last year, blaming a decline in consumer confidence and spending post-pandemic for the collapse.
Around 70 Homebase stores and 1,600 jobs were later reduced after it struck a deal with retail group CDS – which owns The Range – and a further five branches were taken over by B&Q. The former Homebase sites in Altrincham, Basingstoke, Biggleswade, Leamington Spa and Worcester are due to be converted into B&Q stores this spring.
Four former Homebase stores are also due to be transformed into Wickes after the home improvement brand acquired the leases for sites in Dunfermline, Bury St Edmunds, Leeds Moor Allerton and Northampton. These stores will reopen later this year under the Wickes brand, serving catchment areas that don’t currently benefit from a store.
But despite a wave of store closures, Homebase isn’t vanishing for good as customers can now shop the brand as its new garden centres inside The Range superstores, as well as online at Homebase.co.uk.
Homebase has now confirmed that nine more ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’ will be opening in April and even more openings are due to be announced soon.
Announcing the impending openings in a Facebook post, Homebase said: “EXCITING NEWS… We’ve now opened 30 brand-new & exclusive ‘Garden Centres by Homebase within The Range superstores across the UK & Ireland, including Sligo, Drogheda, Winchester & Balloo Park (Bangor), which officially opened today! & Yes, you read that right! ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’ is now available in Ireland!
