A struggling dad has opened up about how he manages to feed his children for for just £1.40.
The cost of living crisis continues to affect families around the UK, who are struggling to get by. Inflation in supermarkets means food is expensive and energy bills continue to rise. People are having to significantly cut back on extra spending, and find cheap alternatives to keep their homes warm and put food on the table.
One dad has been struggling to keep his house clean as he had been avoiding buying cleaning products, to save money up to feed his family. He has been sharing online how he has been counting up his pennies, and manages to prepare meals for his three kids on less than £5 for every meal.
The single father, who lives in London, has been posted his meal preparations on TikTok via his page Tok savings. The dad uploaded a short clip, with the caption ‘feeding my children on a low budget’, leaving many stunned. He recently shared how he prepared a meal for three on just £1.40.
The dad put a frying pan on the hob, and added some oil in. Next, he cracked two eggs and scrambled them. Then he added in a tinned can of peas from Asda and a packet a wholegrain micro rice. He seasoned it with salt and kept stiring, mixing the ingredients together until softened.
He plated the food up onto three plates. In another video clip, the dad shared how he prepared a meal on £1.15, and showed his followers how he had counted pennies and 5p coins. He has been able to help other suffering families.
He bought a tin of sardines in tomato sauce for 45p and 25p curry flavoured instant noodles, both from Asda. He put the sardines in a pan with oil and put the instant noodles in the microwave, before serving up with a side of tomato ketchup.
While some commented on the cleanliness of the kitchen, others rushed to offer their support to the dad.
One individual pointed out: “Everyone’s talking about the cleanliness of this male’s home but no one is talking about this father who is present and providing a meal. Never judge a book by it’s cover, you had no idea.”
“You are a very good father, never stop going,” said one.
One other said: “Good job, that’s a great meal I would have all the time.” “Good luck to you bro, hope you’re OK,” added another.
Another commented: “Thank you for posting these. It helps me and also breaks my heart.” “You keep going and never give up, something amazing will bless you one day,” wrote another.
