Martin Lewis’ MSE shares 7 top travel tips to slash Ryanair costs

These tips for saving money while flying with Ryanair have been revealed by Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert.

The budget airline is known for its affordable fares, but these tips could make your holiday trip even cheaper.

Firstly, the personal finance experts noted, you should always check if booking the return flight is cheaper in euros.

Moreover, Ryanair is known for being strict with its rules, including hand baggage size ones, and if you break them, you’ll lose some money by having to pay extra.

Many travellers have tried to bend the rules by trying to travel with pieces of hand luggage bigger than the allowed measurements.

Money Saving Expert said thinking Ryanair staff won’t notice discrepancies in luggage measurements is a huge risk, adding: “We’ve heard whispers of its staff bringing out a tape measure if there’s any discrepancy about the size of your bag”.

Having the Ryanair app, the experts added, can help save you some money as its features are designed to help make your airport experience quick and easy with minimal fuss.

On the app, you’ll be able to use the free online check in window which is available online 24 hours before departure. If you don’t download your boarding pass, you’ll have to pay a fee to have it printed at the airport – another cost you don’t want to have to add to your trip.

If you want to book a seat on the plane, you can also do this via the app where the costs are listed – but you can save money by taking a randomly assigned seat.

Another useful tip from MSE’s experts is to check the airline’s budget-flight finder tool, which can help you find cheap flights within Europe.

To make sure you’re getting the cheapest deal, you should cross-check this with other flight finder websites such as Skyscanner.

Finally, if you’re travelling on a budget, then avoid making any purchases while you’re on the plane. It’s much cheaper to take food and drinks with you instead of buying them in the air.
