Tesco Clubcard holders are being urged to check their vouchers as millions are set to expire at the end of the month.
People gain points every time they shop at Tesco using a Clubcard, and these points can be converted into vouchers to reduce the price of future shops.
Every 150 points earned translates into a £1.50 voucher, or 200 points can become a £2 voucher.
All of these vouchers can stack up, making for a hefty saving on food shops. However, they also come with an expiry date, making it vital to keep on top of Clubcard accounts to avoid missing out on some supermarket savings.
A staggering £18million-worth of vouchers are due to expire on Saturday, November 30, however, some may not be ready to cash in their points just yet. Martin Lewis’s Money Saving Expert has shared a clever way to extend the validity of vouchers for up to two more years – or even double their value.
Firstly, people can check their vouchers’ expiry date by either logging into the Clubcard account online or looking directly at their paper vouchers. The expiry date is printed on the ticket.
For those ready to spend their vouchers, Money Saving Expert highlighted that using them with Tesco’s Reward Partners can double their value.
For instance, redeeming 500 Clubcard points through a partner like Disney+ or Pizza Express could yield £10 in value, compared to the usual £5 if spent directly at Tesco.
For those who’d rather save their vouchers, Money Saving Expert said people can extend their expiry date by making a small purchase through the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page.
Here’s the process:
- Spend a small amount (for instance, 50p on a restaurant voucher)
- The remaining balance returns to the person’s account as points, creating a new voucher with an expiration date two years later.
While Tesco reserves the right to deny orders if it detects misuse of this method, recent tests by Money Saving Expert confirmed that it’s working. Just be sure to make any necessary purchases by 11:59 pm on Saturday, November 30 to keep vouchers active.
