French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has partnered with blockchain platform Matchain to revolutionize fan engagement and enhance data security through Web3 innovations.

According to a press release shared with Cryptonews.com, the collaboration, which will last from 2024 to 2027, would make Matchain PSG’s Exclusive Digital Identity Partner.

Matchain and PSG to Create Joint Innovation Studio

The partnership will see the establishment of a Joint Innovation Studio, where PSG and Matchain will work alongside Web3 experts to drive technological advancements.

The initiative promises to create personalized and secure digital experiences for fans, fundamentally changing the way supporters connect with their team.

“Through the Joint Innovation Studio, we will bring Web3 experiences to the football community, creating new opportunities for fan engagement and data empowerment,” Matchain CEO Petrix Barbosa said.

Similarly, Nicola Ibbetson, Global Partnership Director at PSG, emphasized the club’s commitment to staying at the forefront of digital transformation.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Matchain to explore new ways of engaging with our fans and continuing our commitment to technological innovation,” Ibbetson said.

Matchain, an AI blockchain platform, saw its mainnet launch on August 28.

Ever since, the platform has seen notable growth in user adoption and transaction volume, the firm said in another announcement earlier this week.

Per the announcement, key metrics include daily active users ranging from 700,000 to 1 million, a peak of 8 million daily transactions, and a total approaching 40 million transactions since the launch.

Additionally, Matchain has surpassed 9 million total wallets and has over 7 million mini-app users, demonstrating strong community engagement.

In contrast to traditional platforms that exploit user data without consent, Matchain empowers users to control their data-sharing permissions.

This approach allows individuals to participate in the AI economy, receiving a share of the revenue generated from their data when shared for training AI models.

Sports Clubs Continue to Explore Blockchain Technology

There has been a surge in sports clubs exploring partnerships with blockchain firms.

In August, Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami, home to star player Lionel Messi, announced a partnership with Polkadot to enhance fan engagement through blockchain applications.

Per the deal, Inter Miami’s First Team training kit will display Polkadot’s logo on all training tops.

In March, it was also reported that UEFA, the governing body of European soccer, was looking to secure sponsors from the crypto exchange sector for the upcoming 2024-2027 cycle of its prestigious men’s Champions League (UCL) club competition.

In 2021, Crypto.com spent $700 million for the naming rights to the former Staples Center, where the Los Angeles Lakers play. The venue is now officially called Crypto.com Arena.

The exchange also entered a $175 million deal to sponsor the UFC. This agreement placed the exchange’s logo on various fight gear, including shorts, top bras, and walk-out hoodies, for a decade.

Furthermore, the company has engaged in various other sports partnerships, including with the Philadelphia 76ers and Formula 1 Racing, and even featured basketball superstar LeBron James in its promotional efforts.
