Nationwide and Santander customers set for £175 Christmas bonus if they do one thing

Customers of major UK banks including Santander and Nationwide have been informed that they could get a pre-Christmas cash bonus, and the renowned Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis, shared with his followers how to get the free £175 up for grabs just in time for the festive season.

Those who would like to get the extra cash just need to switch to First Direct’s 1 Account. Martin Lewis said: “Grab a FREE £175 in time for Christmas. All banks, bar one, have turned off their switching bribes. I hope some will return, but there’s no guarantee.”

The offer is unfortunately not available for individuals who have held accounts with HSBC UK since 18. However, customers of Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland, Nationwide, Santander, Barclays, NatWest, Lloyds, TSB and others are in chance of it.

Any resident in the UK over 18 who hasn’t been declared bankrupt or registered for an Individual Voluntary Agreement in the last six years is likely to qualify. The Money Saving expert added: “Luckily, the one currently available is often top pick, so it’s worth considering.”

Customers who make the switch can get their cash by November 20.

Martin Lewis highlighted that this account is more than just the welcome bonus. It has historically received praise for its customer service, boasting an impressive 90 per cent approval rating.

It also comes with benefits including a 7% savings account where up to £300 can be put away each month, a £250 interest-free overdraft for many customers, and a debit card that offers optimal rates while spending overseas.

First Direct has outlined conditions for new account holders on its platform, stating: “Within 45 days of your account opening you need to: switch to us using the Current Account Switch Service (including at least 2 Direct Debits or standing orders), deposit £1,000, make 5+ debit card payments, and log on to digital banking. New customers only, who haven’t previously held a first direct product.”

They also added a disclaimer which states: “Sorry, we also can’t offer this to people who have opened an HSBC current account on or after 1 January 2018. Offer can be withdrawn at any time. Subject to status. UK residents only.”
