Nationwide Building Society has spelled out exactly who will qualify for a £200 payment.
You can get the extra cash when switching to a Nationwide current account, including when switching to a new or existing FlexPlus, FlexDirect or FlexAccount – but not everyone is eligible to do the switch and claim the extra funds.
One social media user asked the financial instituition if they could switch from their Virgin Money account and qualify for the cash. In response, Nationwide explained a key limitation on the offer: “Our current £200 switch offer is only available to existing Nationwide members.”
The person went on to explain that they had been a Nationwide member for more than 25 years, and simply wanted to know if they could move over from their Virgin account and benefit from the cash incentive.
Nationwide encouraged them to give them a call so they could get further help, directing them to the 03457 30 20 11 helpline. In light of the question from the customer, Nationwide was asked to clarify the rules around who qualifies for the free cash.
The group pointed to information on their website that states: “You’re a qualifying member if you had an eligible mortgage, savings account or current account on 31 March 2025. The account can be a sole or joint account.”
There are several steps you need to go through to be eligible for the £200 payment. You have to
- Move over at least two direct debits as part of the switch
- Complete your switch within 28 days, using the Current Account Switch Service
- Within 31 days of the account opening or applying to switch into an existing account, pay in at least £1,000 and make one debit card payment.
Another person recently asked a question about the offer. They asked if they would have to contact the groups who pay into their account, to let them know of their new account details.
Nationwide told them in response: “We’ll redirect payments from your old account. This means any payments still going to your old account, like your salary or pension, will be redirected to your new account.
“And we’ll tell the organisation making the payments about your new account details.” Nonetheless, the provider advised that the person may need to take action as well, urging: “You should also let them know your new account details.”
