New ‘bank’ opens in UK town which Natwest, HSBC, Lloyds and Santander customers can use

A new ‘bank’ which can be used by customers whose branches have shut their doors is opening in a UK town. This year has seen waves of bank closures across the nation. Hundreds of branches from the biggest high street banks shut their doors permanently in 2025 as a result of the shift in consumer habits.

This year alone has seen more than 400 closures from the likes of NatWest, Lloyds Banking Group, Santander and Barclays, making it difficult for those who do prefer banking in person but have been impacted by a closure. Fortunately for residents in one UK town that has experienced several bank closures, a solution has been found to help provide in-person services for the local residents.

A new Banking Hub is opening in Market Harborough‘s. The hub located at St Mary’s Place will officially open on Friday, December 12.

According to Harborough FM, the centre offers counter service and community banking services, where customers can speak with their own bank representatives on different days about more complex issues.

The Banking Hub, operated by the Post Office with the support of Cash Access UK, was previously located at a temporary site. However, customers can now visit it anytime from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK, said: “I’m happy to announce the opening of our Market Harborough hub in its permanent home, ensuring crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents and businesses across the community.

“Customers can visit on any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions, and if you have a specific or more complex enquiry for your bank, a Community Banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.”
