Octopus Energy collaborates with Rightmove to help Brits buy greener homes

Octopus Energy and Rightmove have launched a new partnership to make it easier for millions of home-movers to find greener homes. Green technology has reportedly become a bigger selling point in the housing market. According to Rightmove, there has been a 46% increase in mentions of heat pumps and a 37% rise in references to solar panels in property listings year-on-year.

To assist homebuyers, Octopus and Rightmove will roll out new tools to showcase how low-carbon technology “can slash energy bills and boost property value”. Greg Jackson, founder and CEO of Octopus Energy, said: “Most people now know someone benefitting from a cost-slashing electric car, and savvy home owners are starting to search for houses with solar panels and heat pumps too.”

He added: “We’re delighted to team up with Rightmove to help their homemovers spot the greener homes of the future.”

As a first step, Rightmove is launching a dedicated Zero Bills label for property listings, allowing developers to highlight the homes powered by Octopus’ Zero Bills smart tariff.

The Zero Bills energy tariff guarantees no home energy bills for five to 10 years in homes equipped with green tech, including a heat pump, a battery and solar panels.

Home-movers switching from a typical UK home (EPC D rating) to an Octopus Zero Bills property could save over £2,350 a year on their energy bills, according to Rightmove data.

Johan Svanstrom, CEO of Rightmove, said: “Helping home-movers navigate to a greener future is a priority for Rightmove, and we provide many forms of information for homes-related sustainability.

“We’re excited to partner with Octopus Energy to unlock more opportunities and drive both awareness and adoption. We’re starting by highlighting Octopus Energy’s innovative energy-saving product with a label on applicable new homes listings on our platform.”
