Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest apps down as thousands ‘locked out’ of accounts

Thousands of Royal Bank of Scotland users have been locked out of their accounts this morning after being unable to use the mobile app. NatWest is reportedly also affected by the chaos.

The Royal Bank of Scotland has said they are experiencing “connection issues”.

In a statement, they said: “We have been receiving reports that the online banking and mobile app are experiencing connection issues.

“We are currently looking into getting this resolved.

“Thanks so much for your patience. We’re sorry for any inconvenience. Please try again later.”

Customers trying to see their accounts were given the following message: “Some kind of error has occurred.”

Users were told to check their WiFi and make sure they had updated the app.

However, users are now expressing their anger online as they remain locked out of the app.

One said: “So frustrating when it’s a Saturday and no local branch is open.”

Another said: “RBS is definitely having issues. I can’t sign into online banking or the app.”

A third added: “Smashing… full morning away to s**t thanks to the RBS app.”

Only a month ago, the Royal Bank of Scotland’s online banking system was hit with a similar problem.
