Various Santander banking services went down on Thursday, leaving customers unable to make payments or transfers.
Outage reports began to pick up on the service status tracking site Downdetector at around 12.17pm.
Customers reported issues including being unable to access online banking, and many reported not being able to make payments.
One person on the site commented: “Santander app not showing payees, cannot make payments. Anyone else having issues?”
Another asked: “Anyone know how long this will be for?”
Users also voiced their frustration on social media, with one person writing on X: “I can’t do bank transfers between accounts or to my payees. What’s going on?”
A different user said: “Santander please sort your mobile banking out at a pub and i can’t even transfer money.”
Santander said in a post on X: “We aware that customers are currently unable to access some of our services.
“We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and are urgently working to fix the problem.
“We would like to reassure our customers that no customer will be left out of pocket,” they added.
On the service status page of its website, the bank acknowledged that it was experiencing issues with: mobile banking, telephone banking, cash machines, branches, and card payments.
It follows a series of recent outages that have left users unable to access online services offered by popular high-street banks.
On Thursday, the Treasury Committee published data revealing that nine major banks and building societies operating in the UK had racked up at least 803 hours of tech outages over the past two years, as per BBC News.
