Slash energy bills ‘instantly’ with Martin Lewis’s simple radiator trick

As the temperatures continue to dip, lots of people are looking for ways to warm up while keeping their energy bills low.

Now you don’t have to worry about it any longer, as a simple hack could make all the difference to your winter. Sam Calver recently shared the trick on TikTok after discovering it thanks to the help of money saving expert, Martin Lewis.

In a candid clip, he said it’s something people need to know about, as it’s helped him save so much money. Sam said: “I can’t believe I’ve only just found out about this central heating trick.

“All I seem to be doing is turning the heating up all the time, but I saw Martin Lewis talking about the radiator foil hack, and I had to give it a go. I grabbed myself some radi savers – actually really cheap and you get about five metres of it.

“You just cut it to size, slide it down the back of your radiator, and it now reflects the heat from your radiator back into the room rather than seeping through your walls. It means you can have your heating on less and save a lot of money over time.”

Hundreds of people have liked the video since it was shared, and some were quick to comment too. Many seemed keen to try out the handy hack.

One person said: “I done the whole room – walls, roof – even the windows. I honestly know how the Xmas turkey feels sitting in its tin foil all day. Very warm, but very dark.”

Another wrote: “It works well. Done it since the 80s. Also, put thick aluminium foil on the ceiling. The room becomes even warmer as you don’t lose heat to the flat upstairs.”

Meanwhile, a third also replied: “People have been doing this for donkeys years.”

It was actually back in 2022 that Martin Lewis first opened up about the trick on the Martin Lewis Money Show Live. At the time, he said, if you put foil behind radiators, then it should work to reflect the heat into the rest of the room.

People can also snap up specialist radiator foil, but tin foil is said to be cheaper and also has the same effect. There are some experts who say there isn’t much evidence to back the theory up though.

Nonetheless, many content creators have praised how effective the method is online. In the past, Martin also explained how placing an airtight layer of cling film over a single glazed window could work to trap air and reduce heat loss.

It’s claimed the nifty trick can also limit the amount of condensation that forms on the glass. This tends to happen when warm, moist air in the room merges with the cold glass.
