Shoppers can get thousands of pounds in savings with an app available to use at major supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.
The Sprive app allows you to use cashback and other deals such as discounted vouchers to go towards paying off your mortgage.
One user described how he stands to save £2,500 in interest and reduce his mortgage term by several years thanks to the app.
Christopher Gilbert, 40, from Surrey Hills, said: “Shop with Sprive is literally free money – you are doing the shopping anyway, and it doesn’t cost you any more to use the app, but it does earn you money to overpay.”
The dad of two uses Sprive for his weekly shopping at Tesco and Sainsbury’s, as well as getting cashback at Waitrose, M&S and John Lewis.
You can also use Sprive when buying your groceries at Morrisons and Asda, as well as at big name food and drink outlets such as Costa Coffee, Greggs and Pizza Express.
Mr Gilbert said: “We have only been using the app for a few months, and already we are on track to save almost £2,500 in interest and shave 3 years off the mortgage term, and the best thing of all is it actually hasn’t cost me anything to do. My only regret is that I didn’t know about it sooner.”
The senior sales consultant has a mortgage for £400,000 and has been a homeowner since 2009. He is on a 1.79 percent five-year fixed deal and signed up for Sprive in August 2024 last year.
He said: “Sprive offers another way of overpaying my mortgage with zero hassle. On a normal month, I would pay around £125 in overpayments but on a good month, more than £400.
“With the Shop with Sprive feature – which is so easy to use – I’m averaging about £65 per month in overpayments just from cashback.”
He recently did some work on the house, spending £400 at B&Q, and was able to get some cashback through Sprive.
The Sprive app also allows users to pay an amount each month from your linked bank account towards your mortgage.
