Households across the UK are being urged to slash as much as £2,550 off their energy bills by using a £2.70 item this November.
Energy bills are going up and up, with a 10 percent rise from last month which is set to last right through November and December and Christmas too.
That’s why everyone is looking for any way to cut their energy bills as far as they can.
It might seem unlikely, but spending just £2.70 on one light bulb will save you £75 on average over the course of its lifetime.
Eco experts at National Home Energy Survey are now urging people to ditch their old light bulbs and swap to energy saving LED bulbs to save a surprising amount of money.
Max Schwerdtfeger from The Eco Experts says “a single LED light bulb will save you £75 over the course of its lifetime.”
On average, a UK household will have around 34 light bulbs, each using energy and adding to home energy bills.
Considering that just one LED bulb could save you £75 over the course of its lifetime, this means UK households could save around £2,550 if all 34 light bulbs were LEDs, Max said.
LED lighting also uses about 75% less energy than halogen light bulbs and lasts five-to-ten times longer.
Purchasing longer-lasting household items such as LED light bulbs, means it’s likely you won’t need to waste money on frequent replacements.
LEDs have an average life of 20,000 hours, compared to up to 15,000 hours for a fluorescent tube, 2,000 for a halogen bulb and 1,000 for an incandescent bulb – so they’ll last longer while saving you energy.
Using LED light bulbs can have a positive effect on both energy bills and the environment.
Eco Expert Max Schwerdtfeger says “If every single household in the UK were to install LED light bulbs across their home, we could cut 1.5 million tonnes of carbon every year”.
Roland Ellison, Editor of The Eco Experts, said: “If one LED bulb can save you £75 over its lifetime, imagine how much you could save if you switched all of the bulbs in your home to LEDs?
“Switching to LED bulbs not only saves you money on your energy bills, but also means you could spend less time and money on changing light bulbs, as LEDs last so much longer than traditional bulbs.
“Nowadays you can get an LED bulb for almost any light fitting, and they come in different shades, so you can still choose cool or warm lighting for each room, while saving money on bills.”
