Popular on-chain domain name provider and digital identity platform Unstoppable Domains has partnered with Radix, the registry of Top-Level Domains (TLDs), to provide support for .pw domains.

The move, according to the press release, bridges the gap between traditional Domain Name System (DNS) and tokenized blockchain domains.

More specifically, the .pw extension brings on-chain domains into the mainstream with full browser compatibility and search engine visibility.

Radix is one of the world’s largest registries of new domain extensions, with ten new extensions, including .online, .store, .tech, .website, .space, .press, .site, .host, .fun, and .uno, and one repurposed country code top-level domain (ccTLD), .pw.

It is also an active participant in the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) process to expand the Internet naming system.

The team enables users to get “short, memorable, and descriptive domain names that can be used for a website, email address, or a variety of other internet addressing purposes.”

Therefore, the partnership aims to expand the pool of user-owned domains that are identical across the web, the teams stated.

This will allow companies, brands, and regular people to fully utilize the benefits of blockchain-based domains.

Notably, they stay on the existing Internet infrastructure while doing so.

The public wallet .pw extension is both a DNS and an on-chain domain, the announcement explains.

Thanks to this, said the team, it stands out in “the crowded domain landscape by offering the best of both worlds.”

Moreover, .pw domains can be traditionally DNS-hosted, unlike non-DNS-enabled on-chain domains.

This feature allows these domains to resolve in standard web browsers and appear in search engine results.

Furthermore, community members can host decentralized websites and set up personalized email addresses, enjoying “the full spectrum of both traditional DNS and on-chain capabilities.”

According to the announcement, .pw domains come with the full suite of blockchain functionalities.

They can serve as a unique digital identifier that people can utilize to create their own immutable digital profiles.

Lastly, but importantly, they also “open the door to a decentralized ecosystem.”

The domains can enable sending and receiving cryptocurrencies, logging into all 865 integrated dapps on Unstoppable Domains, receiving collectible badges, privately messaging other domain holders, and more.

“We find that both of our visions align nicely, as we both want to expand the world of top-level domains and allow brands, businesses, and individuals the ability to control their footprint on the internet,” said Suman Das, Radix’s Sr Vice President, Marketing and Brand Strategy.

The two teams together are “paving the way for something extraordinary,” he said – a more decentralized and user-centric internet “where digital identity and ownership are paramount.”

Per Sandy Carter, Chief Operating Officer at Unstoppable Domains, this partnership is not just about launching a new domain extension. Rather, it’s also about “creating a seamless digital experience that empowers users across all ecosystems.”
