On Tuesday, Web3 domain name service provider Space ID announced a partnership with blockchain startup Story Protocol to provide identity management solutions.

According to a press release shared with Cryptonews, Space ID will integrate its domain name infrastructure into Story Protocol.

Human-readable domains like “jane.ip” will serve as blockchain-verified proof of creation, allowing IP owners to authenticate, license, and monetize their work on Story Protocol.

Story Protocol’s Role in Tokenizing Intellectual Property

Launched in 2023, Story Protocol leverages blockchain technology to track intellectual property (IP) and has raised over $54 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) Crypto.

Story Protocol operates as a Layer 1 blockchain focused on tokenizing IP—an asset class valued at $61 trillion. Its mainnet launched on February 13, offering a framework for decentralized collaboration.

Story Protocol’s ecosystem comprises platforms such as Aria Protocol, which facilitates IP tokenization, and Verio Network, where users can stake IP assets for rewards.

Space ID’s Role in Digital Identity

Web3 domains are central to digital identity in the creator economy.

For instance, digital artist Beeple verifies his work’s authenticity using his Ethereum domain, “beeple.eth.”

Space ID’s new “.ip” domains will provide blockchain-verified proof of creation, addressing concerns around authenticity in AI-generated content.

Proof of Creation in Web3 Identity

Digital identity remains a key component of the creator economy.

“In the age of AI, proof of creation is more important than ever. A Web3 domain acts as a unique signature, allowing IP creators to take ownership of their work and trade it seamlessly, reassuring both creators and consumers,” said Harrison Seletsky, director of business development at Space ID.

“Verifiable identity is essential for the future of intellectual property. With .ip domains powered by SPACE ID, IP holders on Story can establish blockchain-verified proof of creation, making it easier than ever to tokenize, trade, protect, and monetize their work,” said Jason Zhao, co-founder and chief protocol officer at PIP Labs, Story’s initial core contributor.

The partnership between Space ID and Story represents advancement in digital identity and intellectual property management, setting authenticity in the Web3 space.

As larger institutions pay attention to on-chain IP management, partnerships like that of Space ID and Story Protocol provide a real-world example of how disputes might be reduced and control more clearly defined.

By integrating verifiable domains with tokenized assets, content owners could address long-standing issues of misappropriation.

This evolution might lead to more standardized methods, spanning across fields such as entertainment, publishing, and beyond.
