Jaguar reveals the Type 01’s screen-free interior

Jaguar has revealed the interior of its new Type 01 electric GT ahead of its October debut, with a four-seat cabin, panoramic glass roof and technology designed to disappear into the car.

The four-seat grand tourer will be fully unveiled in New York on 6 October, but Jaguar has now shown the cabin without the camouflage covering its prototypes. The design follows the radical Type 00 concept closely, with Jaguar describing the production interior as a “concept car vision brought to production.” Its defining feature is a central spine running between the front and rear seats, separating the cabin into four individual spaces.

For a brand attempting to move decisively upmarket, this interior is an important statement. Jaguar is betting that luxury customers will respond to a cleaner cabin with fewer visible screens and more emphasis on materials, space and design, and I think that’s an interesting bet to make in 2026.

Jaguar Type 01 interior and hidden technology

The central spine is the most obvious feature of the Type 01’s cabin. Jaguar calls it a “signature art piece,” and it runs almost the entire length of the interior between the four individual seats, its brass-inspired finish contrasting with the darker cabin materials and continuing the visual theme established by the Type 00 concept.

The dashboard is deliberately sparse, too. A digital display sits in front of the driver, while a relatively small touchscreen for heating and infotainment rises from the central spine, with the electronics tucked into the architecture instead of dominating the dashboard. There’s also a clear visual divide between the driver and front passenger areas.

It’s a significant departure from the large-screen approach used by many luxury EVs, and Jaguar appears to be arguing that expensive cars don’t necessarily need to advertise their technology at every opportunity. I’m inclined to agree with them.

The Type 01 is a four-seater, with each occupant getting an individual seat within the divided cabin. The roofline is low and sweeping, while a panoramic glass section brings more light into what could otherwise be a very enclosed interior.

Jaguar has also carried exterior design cues into the cabin. The “strikethrough” motif seen on the dashboard appears on the leading edge of the bonnet too, creating a visual connection between the inside and outside of the car. It’s consistent with Jaguar’s wider design strategy for its new generation of cars. The company wants the Type 01 to feel like the start of a new Jaguar, not a continuation of the old one.

The Type 01 will also do away with a conventional rear window and physical rear-view mirror, using a digital rear-view camera instead. The display is positioned at the base of the windscreen, roughly level with the wing mirrors, which makes the Type 01 similar in concept to the Polestar 4, another car that uses a camera-based rear-view system instead of a conventional rear window.

The arrangement gives Jaguar more freedom with the car’s rear design while still giving the driver a live view behind the vehicle, another example of technology being used to preserve the clean visual language of the cabin and bodywork.

Jaguar Type 01 materials and luxury

Jaguar has drawn inspiration from materials including travertine stone and what it describes as rich textures from artisan textiles. The central spine and upper sections of the doors feature a brass-inspired finish, while Jaguar’s leaper logo is embossed into the door trim.

These details matter because the Type 01 is being positioned as a luxury GT, not just another electric performance car. Jaguar has spent years trying to establish itself alongside the established German luxury brands, and the new model needs to demonstrate that its value comes from more than electric power and a striking exterior. The interior is where that argument gets tested first.

When will the Jaguar Type 01 be revealed?

Jaguar will display the Type 01 at Monterey Car Week in California before its full unveiling in New York on 6 October. The car has already been seen testing in prototype form, but this interior reveal gives us the first unrestricted look at Jaguar’s new design direction. The Type 01 is expected to become the first production model of Jaguar’s electric reinvention, which makes its launch one of the more significant moments in the company’s modern history.

Jaguar Type 01 verdict

Jaguar is taking a considerable gamble with the Type 01. It’s chosen a clean-sheet approach, replacing familiar Jaguar design cues with a minimalist cabin, a screen-light dashboard and a dramatic four-seat layout. Even the rear-view mirror has been redesigned around a camera.

That makes the Type 01 feel more like a luxury product than a conventional car, which is presumably exactly what Jaguar wants. The harder part comes after the reveal, though. A striking interior can grab attention, but Jaguar still has to prove that this new idea of British luxury is compelling enough to justify the premium it’s expected to command. I’ll reserve full judgement until I’ve sat in one myself.
