Starting this week, NatWest and Santander are closing a combined total of 55 branches by May 28 – is your local on the list? It comes as the two high street giants restructure how they deliver banking services amid a broader shift online.
Dozens more will be pulling down the shutters for good before the end of September, with three NatWest branches serving customers for the last time in February next year. Santander said the move comes as customers increasingly opt for online services, in line with a trend across major lenders. According to the Spanish bank, 96% of customer transactions were now carried out via digital platforms. It is closing 40 branches next month.
NatWest announced its round of closures in January, telling customers that branches affected would be replaced by banking hubs, meaning customers will still be able to get in-person services. “Banking has changed dramatically in recent years. There’s more demand for mobile and online services, allowing you to benefit from a faster and easier way to bank,” the lender said on its website.
“We understand the closure of your local branch will bring some changes, and we want to make sure you are fully informed and supported every step of the way.” 15 branches of its locations are closing in May. Further details could be found in its closure guides on its website.
